Meet Sam!

Hi, I’m Sam, the founder of Sam’s Little Book Nook — where every book deserves a home!

I’m married to Nigel, a mum to three wonderful boys, and share our home with Penny, a black Pointerdor, and four very noisy chickens!

With lots of help from my amazing Mum, who first introduced me to the magic of reading when I was younger, my love of books has grown into something truly special. After having to give up work due to a brain tumour, reading became my lifeline and inspired me to create Sam’s Little Book Nook.

We absolutely love meeting people at events, chatting all things books, and giving preloved stories a new home. Our mission is to make reading affordable and bring communities together through the magic of books.

I originally trained in adult nursing at the University of Buckinghamshire, and following this, worked mainly in nursing homes where I developed a specialist interest in elderly and dementia care.

After taking time out to have children, I decided I wanted to change my career and enrolled at the University of Worcester to study paramedic science. I was working at West Midlands Ambulance Service Headquaters when in 2024 I started to develop some worrying symptoms. After multiple MRI scans and tests I was diagnosed with a singificant brain tumour -  a pituitry adenoma. I had to stop work, then just before christmas in 2025 I suffer a brain heamorrage. I was very poorly. However, after a long period of treatment I am now stable and the tumour is no longer a threat to my life.

All throughout my illness, I found escapism in reading, frankly, it stopped my from going out of my mind with boardem.  Due to ongoing and serious complications of the tumourI am now perminantly disabled, and would never work again.

In early 2026, I watch a news article about how children are no longer reading. This really spoke to me. I have always encouraged my children to read, and thinking about how transformative reading had been during my illness, I felt I wamted to do something for my community and share my love of reading. The book nook was born!
